Chesterfield Parish Church is an ancient and world-famous building. Indications are that there was a church on this site before the Norman Conquest; but the earliest parts of the current church date from 1234 and reflect the prosperity of the town in the medieval period. Most of the present building was completed by 1360.
The Friends of Chesterfield Parish Church was formed in 1942 by the Venerable T. Dilworth-Harrison (Archdeacon and Vicar of Chesterfield) after he had been the incumbent for eight years. The initial aims were “to bind together all those who love the Parish Church of Chesterfield with its crooked spire, and to bring others to appreciate and enjoy it also.” |
