The latest fund-raiser for the Friends contribution to the church lighting project took the form of a Beetle Drive. Nigel Swann reports.
THE FRIENDS’ BEETLE DRIVE
The Parish Beetle Drive champion writes…….
The first Friends’ event of 2017 took place on the afternoon of Saturday 4th February in the Saints’ Function Room. A Beetle Drive provided fun and a lively contest between the hours of 2.00 p.m. & 4.00 p.m.; a period of frantic dice-shaking and some creative and/or peculiar insect drawing ensued, along with the usual accusations that the dice did not have the required numbers etched on them.
After a trial, tentative game so that people could understand the rules and get accustomed to the Friends’ design of beetle, the afternoon developed into one of good-spirited serious competition. Our thanks go to Susanne McKenna who hosted the event, provided the papers and pens, and also directed winners and losers of each game to their new tables before chaos took over.
Some 30 people supported the Beetle Drive including a couple of visitors from Manchester who, after looking round the church, spotted our poster and decided to come along and try their luck. Proof positive that it pays to advertise!
The next event for the Friends will be the Annual Quiz Night, to be held in the Saints Function Room on Friday 19th May. Further information nearer the time. Look out for posters, and an update here.”
